Happy New Year to Everyone.
On Saturday January 29th our annual Winterfest will take place:
11:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. the
Port Union Recreation Centre.
This event is sponsored in part by CCRA. Please mark it on your calendars and plan to attend with your whole family.
This month the new executive officially takes office. While there are many familiar names on the executive I want to welcome the new executive members.
Kathy Rowe is our new secretary, Patricia Cruickshank is Communications chair, Gayle Gibson will be assisting Kathy Sullivan in Planning, Ann Matthe will be assisting Jennifer Fitzgerald in Events, Alison Kelly will be assisting Marilyn Hodge on Crime Prevention and Chris Welch will look after Conservation.
The status of the Wanita School Site is an ongoing concern. Kathy Sullivan has written an update on the latest in this continuing issue with Toronto District School Board and The City of Toronto.
In November the Toronto Region Conservation Authority held a meeting of the Working Committee for the Waterfront Trail. CCRA vice president Anne Robson attended this meeting on my behalf. Work on the trail is progressing well and will continue throughout the winter. The trail should reach Highland Creek by next spring. Work on the bridge across Highland Creek should start later next year. To give you an idea of how much material has been hauled to the waterfront, below is a list of the quantities of various materials brought to the site since this project started.
· 4,641 truckloads of small and large rubble (for trail base)
· 80,000 tons of rip-rap (shore protection)
· 11,500 tons of armour stone (shore protection)
· 600 tons of small cobbles (beaches)
· 1,200 tons of large cobbles (beaches)
The next meeting of the working group is scheduled for January 25th, 2005.
