Happy New Year to
Everyone & Welcome to 2008.
On Saturday January 26th
our annual Winterfest will take place from:
11:00 a.m. to 3 p.m.
At the Port Union
Recreation Centre.
More details on this
activity are on the back cover of this newsletter. CCRA co-sponsors
this event along with West Rouge Sports and Recreation, Port Union Seniors
and the City of Toronto.
This is a wonderful community outing for the whole family. Please
mark the date on your calendar and plan to attend.
In early December I attended the quarterly meeting of the
Port Union Waterfront Trail Working Committee. Items discussed at
the meeting included an update on construction plans for phase 2 and a
review of some of the minor maintenance issues for phase 1. Some
minor reshaping and placement of the beach cobbles may have to be
undertaken in one of the 5 “beach” areas. Property acquisition for
phase 2 is well underway with one property still to be acquired.
Steps are underway to secure possession of this property in the next few
months. Subject to the acquisition of this last remaining property
work is schedule to get underway early this year.
With the coming of a new year there are some changes to our
executive. As mentioned in a previous newsletter our advertising
chair Rob Wyse has decided to step down. Our new Advertising Chair
is Neil O’Brien. Contact info for Neil is contained in this
newsletter. New Executive member Betty Karsh will be sharing the
Membership Chair with Tony Sibley. Also Gayle Gibson, our Newsletter
Distribution Chair has resigned due to an unexpected circumstance.
Another new member of the executive Adele Pugliese has agreed to take on
that position. Thanks to Gayle for his dedication and hard work as
Newsletter Distribution chair.
Many of you may have noticed the new house being constructed
at 369 Lawson Rd.
(former Esson Place). The new owners submitted an application to the
city that was approved, to have the property subdivided into 3 equal lots,
with each lot having a frontage of about 50ft. The new house under
construction will be on the most westerly lot, a new house will be built
using part of the existing older home on the property and a 3rd
house will be build on a new lot on the east side of the property.
