President’s Message

Thanks to everyone who came out to our 16th Winterfest.  This annual winter activity, co- sponsored by CCRA, is always a fun outing for the whole family.   A lot of people are involved in organizing Winterfest as this is one of the major community events of the year.  Thanks to the committee for another great job.

We continue to be in touch with the city planner regarding the Highland Creek Area Study.  While this study focuses on Highland Creek parts of it impact our community, particularly the Lawson Rd overpass area.  Should this plan be implemented the resulting increase in density will impact traffic patterns in our community.   We have asked the planner to hold a meeting for our community so we have a chance to review and comment on the plan.  We will let you know when such a meeting is scheduled.  For those with Internet you can access the study by going to City of Toronto and type in “Highland Creek Area Study” www.toronto.ca/planning/highlandcreekvillage.htm

A reminder to all secondary students, we are offering a scholarship to any student living within our community who will be graduating from high school this year, and will be pursuing a post secondary education.  The scholarship is in honour of William Dempsey, one of the founding members of CCRA and its first president.  The deadline for applications is 9:30 p.m. April 24th 2012.  Details about the scholarship and application form can be obtained from our web site www.ccranews.com

On March 31th we will be holding a social evening at the West Rouge Community Centre..  Activities Chair Heather Lemieux is working with members of the executive to plan an evening that will likely focus on wine tasting followed by a dance.  Watch for more details in our March newsletter.
