Thanks to everyone who came out to our Annual Winterfest.  This annual winter activity, co-sponsored by CCRA, is always a fun outing for the whole family.  We hope you enjoyed it.  Thanks to the committee for another great job in organizing this community event.

This month there are a couple of community events you may wish to attend.  On Wednesday February 28th a Town Hall Meeting with Superintendent Paul Gottschalk and some of the staff from 43 Division Police Station will be held at St Dunstan’s Church Hall on Lawson Road.  This event is being put together by Marilyn Hodge, CCRA’s representative on the Community Policing Liaison Committee along with representatives of the West Rouge Community.  This is an opportunity for residents to come out and meet some of the officers at 43 Division, hear what they are doing in our community, and to voice any concerns you may have about crime and safety in our community.  Marilyn has written a further detailed article about this event in this newsletter.

On Friday February 16th from 12-2 p.m. there will be a free community skate at Heron Park Arena.  This event is open to everyone in the community.  It is being sponsored by 43 Division and the Community Policing Liaison Committee.  Again Marilyn Hodge has provided details of this event elsewhere in this newsletter.

On December 6th the City of Toronto East Division Committee of Adjustment approved the realignment of some lots on the east side of Meadowvale south of Wanita.  These changes are in anticipation of a development of new homes off Meadowvale south of Wanita.  The application for this new development was being reviewed by city staff.  Unfortunately the City did not complete their review in 180 days as required by the Planning Act.  As result of the City’s failure to comply, the developer has made application to the Ontario Municipal Board for approval.  The public has not had a chance to see the proposal and provide comments and now that the matter is before the OMB we are uncertain if they will.  We will continue to follow this matter and update you when we know anything further. Planning Chair Mike Tomaiuolo has a full report on this and other planning issues elsewhere in this newsletter.

Events Chair Heather Lemieux is working on a Social Event on March 31st to be held at the West Rouge Community Centre.  Watch for details in next month’s newsletter.
