This
month we will be celebrating Earth Day on April 25th.
Conservation Chair, Chris Welch and Events Chair Heather Lemieux have been
working with the committee planning this year’s event. Activities get
underway at the Port Union Recreation Centre at 10:00 A.M. This is the
one day of the year set aside to do something in our community for the
environment. The main activities will be cleaning up the areas where
debris and garbage have collected over the winter as well as tree
planting. There will be conservation and environmental displays at the
Rec. Centre. This is an event for all members of your family so plan to
attend and pitch in to make our community clean and environmentally
friendly.
Don’t
forget high school students have until April 27 at 9:30 p.m. to
submit their applications for our $1000 William A. Dempsey scholarship
marking our 60th anniversary. Details and the application are
contained on our web site.

On March
28th we held our “Dancing Through The Ages” evening to
celebrate our 60th anniversary. Thanks to all who attended to
make this evening a huge success. Special thanks also to Events Chair
Heather Lemieux for organizing this event and Patricia Cruickshank who was
instrumental in obtaining the championship dancers.
Next
month we will be launching our annual membership campaign. Membership
Chair Betty Karsh is busy organizing for the campaign for this year.
There is a list in this newsletter of streets requiring canvassers.
Please consider volunteering to be a canvasser, this is our only fund
raising event for the year.
