This month we launch our annual membership campaign. Membership Chair Tony Sibley has been busy recruiting canvassers in order to ensure we have a successful campaign. As noted in earlier newsletters you can now go to our web page and sign up and pay for your membership on line at www.centennialcra.com and just click on the “Pay Pal” icon. CCRA is one of the largest community associations in the Toronto area. It is important that we have a large, active membership to ensure our voice is heard on matters that affect our community. Be sure to purchase your membership.
On April 7th I attended the official opening of the new 43 Division Police Headquarters and 26 Division EMS Station. As a result of the opening of the new EMS facilities the existing ambulance station on Lawrence Ave near Centennial Rd will be closed. The official opening for the general public will be held Saturday May 13th. CPLC representative Marilyn Hodge has more details on the opening in her report in this newsletter.
On March 20th a community meeting was held to present details on the reconstruction of Meadowvale Road. An earlier meeting had been held to receive public input on this project. The city will be reconstructing Meadowvale Road with a roadway with of 8.3 meters. There will be curbs on either side of the roadway and a sidewalk along the east side. The ditches will be removed. Construction is scheduled to get underway in July and be complete by late September.
By the time you receive this newsletter the City of Toronto Administration Committee will have reviewed the plan to purchase the Wanita School site. The meeting was held on May 2. Many residents of the community made presentations to the committee urging them to approve the purchase. I will report on the outcome in next month’s newsletter.
A development application has been received by the city for a parcel of land on Port Union Road between the south section and north section of Andora Road (near Adams Park).
The city will be calling a public meeting to review the plan and seek community input.
Mark down June 17th for Heritage Day. The day will start with a parade along Lawson Rd to Highland Creek Village. Activities and events for the whole family will take place throughout the day in the Village.
Our Summer Concert Series will be held again this year on Sunday July 9, 16 and 23. Events Chair Heather Lemieux will have more details on these concerts in the June newsletter.
