On
Thursday October 16th we will be holding our Annual General
Meeting. When there are no controversial issues in a community, it
is easy to sit back and rely on others to get involved. However
there continues to be important issues that require community input.
Community events that are held throughout the year are the result of
people devoting time to make them happen. We need your attendance at
this meeting to hear your input on community issues that matter to you.
Please plan to attend, give us your views, opinions and get involved.
Annual General Meeting
7:30
p.m. Thursday October 16th, 2007
Port
Union Recreation Centre
Our
quarterly meeting of the Waterfront Trail Working Committee was held on
Sept 15th. The committee viewed the work underway on
phase 2 of the trail. This phase will connect the Rouge Beach to the
existing completed section of the trail that stops at the GO station.
There will also be some minor work done on the large mound at the bottom
of Port Union to direct people on to the pathways as they climb the hill
to view the lake. The next meeting will be held in early December.
There has
been much controversy and discussion in the media about the new garbage
bins introduced by the City. Residents in our community have now
received their bins and are using them. In other parts of the city
these bins have caused some homeowners difficulty in storing them.
For the most part our community is not faced with a storage problem for
the bins. However, a resident of our community forwarded the
following comments concerning this issue in our community.
“The
new garbage and recycling bins improve waste handling for most of us.
However, there is one not so pleasant side effect: I find that a number of
households in our neighborhood leave one or two bins out in the open 24/7
for everyone to see. Homes in this area all have two-car garages and most
of them are fenced. Would it be too much to ask that everyone do the
decent thing and store bins out of sight? “
A
memorial service will be held to honour founding member and CCRA’S first
president Bill Dempsey who passed away last month. The memorial
service will be held on Sunday October 5th.
See page 15 for details.
Next year
will mark the 60th anniversary of the association. This
is a significant milestone for any organization. I have attended
some preliminary planning meetings with the local recreation centre staff
and representatives of the Port Union Seniors and Port Union library staff
to plan celebrations for next year. The Seniors, the Library and the
City will be marking their 25th anniversaries next year as
well. More to follow in the coming months.
Hope to see you at our Annual General Meeting Thursday October 16th.
