CCRA Vice President Jeff Forsyth: January 2004
The beginning of a new year is an opportune time to reflect on the year's activities in our community. In January we held our annual Winterfest, in April it was our 50's dance followed later in the month by Earth Day. Heritage Day was celebrated in June with the Summer Concert Series held in July. In addition to these events we managed to print and distribute 10 editions of the newsletter, carry out our membership campaign, monitor and report on crime in the community. We were present in April for the opening of the Crossroads Skateboard Park at the Port Union Recreation Center and in September for the sod turning for the new 43 Division Police and Emergency Services Building on Lawrence Ave. at Manse Road. We appeared before the Ontario Municipal Board on 3 separate occasions this past year to deal with planning matters in our community. A dream of this community for many years has been to have a waterfront trail. Work finally got underway on the trail this year and will continue for several more years. The Village Common, a central feature on Port Union south of Lawrence Ave. was essentially completed this year. While the executive meet regularly to discuss and carry out the business of the association we cannot be effective in the community without the help of the many volunteers who assist with newsletter distribution, membership and the various events mentioned above. Thanks to all of you who volunteer in various capacities, your continuing help is very much appreciated. Many newsletter advertisers depend on the support of the residents of our community. Without your continued support of these advertisers we would be unable to publish the newsletter. Thank you to our many advertisers. Thank you to the residents of our community for your continued support. We have one of the largest memberships of any community association in the GTA, something we can all be proud of. On Saturday January 31st our annual Winterfest will be held at the Port Union Recreation Centre. It is always a fun time for the whole family, so mark it on your calendar and plan to attend.
