CCRA 60th Year Anniversary Celebration Ideas
As many
of you are aware, 2009 is the CCRA’s 60th Anniversary and we
have been considering a number of ideas of how to celebrate this
milestone. It is also the Port Union Community Centre’s 25th
year of operation. To recognize this event, we have been talking about a
possible idea of a picnic in September, and perhaps renting a large tent
for the front of the Port Union Community Centre to hold it.
At the
AGM I brought up another brand new idea, that I hoped to get input from
others and time is of the essence!
I did
share with everyone what people seem to be looking for in an evening
out. Between West Rouge Sports &Recreation Association and ourselves, we
have run a number of events in the past and from our experience it seems
that people want some form of entertainment and to be entertained, food
and drinks. (Dances themselves don’t seem to work).
One
possible idea is to use our booked date at the West Rouge CC of
Saturday March 28th, 2009 and organize an evening entitled
“Celebrating the Decades” which would include a 1949 style Cocktail
Party, along with an historical look back at our neighbourhood, with a
selection of music throughout the past 60 years for dancing. We do have
the Brian Rose band booked for this night already. I asked the executive
and those present what their thoughts were and if they had any other ideas
for the night. Although ideas were a bit slow to come forward right away,
people seemed to like the idea of a different kind of night out and a few
ideas came up after the meeting. Some of the other ideas; were to have a
“Centennial Idol Contest”, Learn to Dance (perhaps ballroom, salsa or
swing), or to have a big draw home grown talent perform.
However,
none of these fun events are possible with out many hands to make this
come together. If you have any ideas or thoughts on any of these, or
would be willing to help and/or contribute to the event, please call or
email me. I am willing and eager to look at any ideas you may have.
We are
raring to go to sponsor an event that celebrates the many years the CCRA
has been around and to have a fun evening the community would enjoy.
